Forever Lehár is Katalin Benedekffy's surprise operetta set on 12 April (Wednesday) at 5pm at the Agóra Cultural Centre in Veszprém. The programme, which is being organised to mark the 75th anniversary of the death of the world-famous composer, will feature opera singer Katalin Pitti as guest of honour, István Mikó the actor, composer Attila Kovács and dancers from the Cholnoky Movement Arts Studio. The host is Róbert Varga, journalist.
Katalin Benedekffy, Prima Prize-winning popular singer, opera singer and actor, recently presented her book about her homeland, A Pinch of Transylvania, with great success in Veszprém. At the public's request, he will return to the city to pay tribute to the life's work of Ferenc Lehár. The composer died 75 years ago, on 24 October 1948 in Bad Ischl. This date is Imre Kálmán's birthday and also the day of Hungarian operetta. In the Forever Lehár compilation, which will be shown in Veszprém, the composer's life can be followed in a diary-like manner, while Katalin Benedekffy will interpret his popular operetta hits from his works Cigányszerelem, A víg widow, A smiling country, Giuditta and Paganini. Éva Bárkányi-Horváth, pianist, will delight the audience with a popular Lehár waltz.
The event is enhanced by a toast and a tribute to the world-famous composer, as well as the singing of the song "Far the Great Forest" by the guest of honour, Katalin Pitti, Liszt Ferenc Prize-winning and distinguished artist, and a perpetual member of the Hungarian State Opera House. A surprise guest on the occasion of Poetry Day will be István Mikó, the founder of the Kaláka ensemble and star of several Lehár operettas, a Jászai Mari Prize-winning artist and distinguished performer. Attila Kovács, Gizella Prize-winning composer and pianist, will perform a special "Little one, don't hesitate-Lehár jazz" production especially created for the occasion. In the framework of the programme, young dancers from the Cholnoky Movement Art Studio in Veszprém will pay tribute to the operetta king with their choreography "Never Enough". The choreographer is Katalin Erdélyi. The founder, artistic director and choreographer of the ensemble is the Gizella Prize winner Dr. Kiszelyné Tünde Czibik. The patron of the event in Veszprém is Miklós Szinetár, director, Kossuth Prize winner, two-time Jászai Mari Prize winner, meritorious and distinguished artist, former director general and hereditary member of the Hungarian State Opera House.
Ferenc Lehár is listed among the kings of operetta. His work as a composer and the operatic quality of his works are recognised all over the world. He has written 31 operettas, one of the most popular of which is The Merry Widow. This composition was praised on Broadway and has been made into films. It has been translated into 25 languages and has been performed in almost every part of the world. German operetta singers are also proud to have Ferenc Lehár as one of their own, his former villa in Bad Ischl is now a museum and the local theatre is named after him. He lived in Austria for many years, but always remained a Hungarian citizen. In the Forever Lehár compilation, the audience can discover not only his life, but also the adventurous fate of Katalin Benedekffy.
