Folk carving course for beginners<\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n

Ten suitable woodcarving courses will start in Bakony shepherd woodcarving and Szentg\u00e1l woodcarving under the guidance of woodcarver Mil\u00e1n Kropf.
\nThe course is recommended for beginners and those interested in woodcarving (over twelve years old).<\/p>\n

The first three sessions will be about the groundwork. Participants will be introduced to three different tools and their corresponding handles. These include the bevel-edged and straight-edged carving knife and the rolling chisel. We will start by carving a dummy tree to practice safe tool use, chisel holding and various handles while learning the basics of jewellery carving. This will be followed by materials skills. Through the carving of a spreader knife, we will learn how the direction of the wood's grain affects the direction of the carving when shaping it into a mould.<\/p>\n

In the fourth session we will cover tool maintenance and sharpening skills.<\/p>\n

In the second half of the course, the substantive work begins. We carve a mirror with a handle and a convex carving. In doing so, we will use what we have learned so far within an object, and begin to explore the form and meaning of the Bakony (Szentg\u00e1l) patterned mirror.<\/p>\n

At the end of the course, depending on the time remaining, participants can choose between three different types of objects according to their skills and individual interests: a carved stick, a clove or a pen holder.<\/p>\n

The necessary wood and tools are provided by the master for the duration of the course.
\nThe course starts with a minimum of 8 participants.<\/p>\n
