The increasingly overlooked actor Stéphane joins his company at the Avignon Festival for a light comedy. There he meets Fanny, a celebrated actress, and is immediately smitten. He exploits a misunderstanding to get closer to her, but finds himself in a deeper and deeper spiral of if-ness that he is forced to maintain until the end of the festival.
