The time has come for the young Prince Benedikt to finally get married. When he sees a painting of Princess Karolina, he is completely enchanted by her and immediately falls in love with her. Disguised as a gardener, he mingles in the princess's court and tries to win her heart in his disguise. But Karolina rejects him. Benedikt does not give up, however, and the young couple eventually fall in love. Their happiness is short-lived, however. They are soon forced to flee when the princess is promised to another man.
