„After the horse in Turin, what more can I say?“ - In memory of Béla Tarr, the last film of his life's work is being screened again, and was awarded the Silver Bear at the 2011 Berlin International Film Festival.
The title refers to the horse that Friedrich Nietzsche saw on 3 January 1889, as he was leaving his apartment in Turin. The horse, tied in front of the carriage, became obstinate and the coachman began to whip it. The philosopher stepped up to the horse, and burst into a great sob and embraced it. After his servant had taken him home, he put Nietzsche to bed, and he spent the next 10 years of his life in silent mental decline.
In the film, we follow the daily lives of a father and daughter over six days in the middle of nowhere, on an abandoned farm. In the film, everything that had given life meaning disappears in a direction contrary to the order of creation.
