The three episodes of „Father Mother Sister Brother” tell the story of a family. In all three episodes, the siblings meet after a long time. As they come together, they must confront tensions rooted in the past and reassess their complicated relationship with their parents.

Each of the three chapters is set in a different country: Father is set in the north-eastern United States, Mother in Dublin and Sister Brother in Paris. As usual for Jarmusch, the film is a character study that combines melancholy with subtle humour, exploring family relationships.
