Based on true events, the film is about the family of renowned artist Christian Boltanski. As Paris is in revolutionary turmoil in May 1968, nine-year-old Christophe is excited to spend more time with his grandparents in their beloved apartment. The little boy enjoys the lively presence of his cheerful uncles and his flamboyant great-grandmother from Odessa. While his parents join the historic protests, the family is confronted with their own past when an honoured guest seeks refuge in their home.
