It may rise in the wake of a glowing cigarette, or be born amidst the crackling of a burning pile of leaves on a damp autumn afternoon. It may rise into the sky as the ominous effect of a mass of sooty chimneys, just as it may be the gentle, soul-warming child of a single wisp of incense.
It envelops us, wraps us up, affects our senses, and then dissipates. Seemingly without a trace, yet it lingers in our pores, almost tickling the skin, and we can still feel it on us for a long time afterwards.
It can bring ecstasy, overwhelming emotions, sensuality and a deeply peaceful intimacy all at once.
Just like music…
Lia Pokorny’s musical performance was also inspired by this duality. It is built around well-known songs with an exciting, sensual atmosphere, set to ethereal piano accompaniment, original and humorous spoken interludes, and a smoky voice that evolves with each song. A voice that at times scratches, at times gently caresses, guiding the audience through the chords of the performance.
The atmosphere is guaranteed by, among others, tributes to Ella Fitzgerald, Gershwin, Edith Piaf, Nat King Cole, György G. Dénes and Zsuzsa Cserháti.
