The new, darkly humorous film from the director of the cult classics Oldboy and The Handmaiden was hailed by critics in Venice as one of the best films of the year, calling it „a wildly entertaining South Korean masterpiece, this year's Parasite” (BBC) and „living proof that Park Chan-wook is one of the most elegant filmmakers of our time” (Variety). No Other Choice is South Korea's official entry for the 2026 Oscars.
Since Man-su, he has been a valued employee at the local paper factory. He is living the Korean dream: he lives with his wife, two children and two dogs in a spacious family home, where he spends his free time tending to his bonsai trees. However, the new owner of the factory begins downsizing in the name of modernisation, and soon Man-su finds himself out on the street. His initial determination to find work is replaced by despair: after a while, even keeping his pets becomes as much of a problem as making his regular mortgage payments. A series of humiliating situations finally drives Man-su to take steps that cross all boundaries. (Mozinet)
