Bookbinding workshop
Tape book with Tibetan paper
In this session, paper craftswoman Tünde Szentgyörgyi will show step-by-step the tools, materials and applications needed to make hand-bound books.
At the workshop, everyone can make their own book on tape, using original Tibetan paper.
Nepali lokta paper is entirely handmade by artisans in Kathmandu, using traditional Tibetan methods. The paper is acid-free, strong, durable and was used to print the first currency in Tibet.
Participants will learn about this special material and bookbinding techniques, the basic steps of accurate measuring and cutting, paper handling, folding, gluing and sewing. At the end of the workshop, they will take home a beautifully stitched book of their own making, which they can later make at home without the use of special tools.
Participation does not require any previous experience or training in bookbinding.
Beginners and advanced players are welcome, from the age of 16.
Participation fee: 14 500 HUF/person, which includes the necessary materials and the use of tools.
