Spain, 16th century. Teresa waits patiently, aware that the moment has arrived - today the Inquisitor is paying a visit. His verdict will determine the fate of the San José convent that he and the sisters have devotedly built. She is waiting in the kitchen when the inquisitor arrives - surprisingly young and too striking for such a serious role. At first he seems shy and reserved, but this facade soon falls away, revealing his true nature. Teresa senses the weight of impending danger. The questioning turns to her alleged conversations with the Lord, but the inquisitor is convinced that these visions are the work of the devil. A heated confrontation unfolds - Teresa's life, writings, faith, perceptions of God and her views on the books are all under scrutiny. With no escape, she knows that this inquisition has no positive outcome.
