Nicholas 'Nicky' Winton, a young London broker, together with Trevor Chadwick and Doreen Warriner of the British Commission for Czechoslovakian Refugees, rescued 669 children from the Nazis in the months before the Second World War. Nicky visited Prague in December 1938, where he met German and Austrian families threatened by the rise of the Nazis and left behind, living in appalling conditions with no food or shelter. The young man and his two companions then raced against time to rescue as many children as possible before the borders were closed. (Forum Hungary)
