Nobel Prize winner Samuel Beckett is one of the most important playwrights of the 20th century. Most people may know him for his play Waiting for Godot, but it is not the only reason the Irish author is considered one of the pioneers of modern literature. Dance First! is a biopic of Beckett's work and private life, covering his life from youth to his Nobel Prize win. It covers the most important milestones, the intricacies of his private life and the storms of history. Through the film, we gain a better understanding of Beckett's complex inner world, which he so vividly conveys through his work.
Dance First! is the latest historical film from Oscar-winning director James Marsh. After multiple Oscar nominee The Theory of Everything and Stephen Hawking, Marsh has once again made a biopic about a genius of his time. Samuel Beckett is played by Golden Globe winner Gabriel Byrne (Common Criminals, Inheritance, Stigmata, Judgement Day), and is joined by Aidan Gillen (The Dark Knight Rises, Game of Thrones, The Maze: Trial by Fire) and Bronagh Gallagher (Pulp Fiction, Sherlock Holmes, The Extraordinary Life of David Copperfield). The film was shot in Hungary with Hungarian contributors (Vertigo Media).
