For four decades, Francis Ford Coppola, the director of The Godfather trilogy and now Apocalypse, has been trying to convince Hollywood studios to finance his grandiose project. In the end, he sacrificed much of his personal fortune to make the biggest film of his career.
In Megalopolis' vision of the future, there is a stark contrast between the luxurious, towering skyscrapers of New Rome. The progressive thinking of ambitious and visionary architect Cesar Catilina (two-time Oscar nominee Adam Driver) is pitted against the power entrenchment and greed-driven gamesmanship of Mayor Franklyn Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito). The conflict between the two is heightened by Cesar's relationship with the mayor's daughter, Julia (Nathalie Emmanuel), for whom at stake is not only the future of the city, but also his love and family.
Megalopolis is a testament to the five-time Oscar-winning and two-time Palme d'Or-winning film legend and an outspoken critique of the cowardly studio system.
